Welcome

TECS2023

Welcome

Tanzania: Africa's most exciting investment destination for energy and power development

Peak electricity demand in the country is expected to approximately quadruple by 2025 to 4,000 MW and as a result, the Government has set itself hugely ambitious targets of a 75% electrification rate by 2033 and adding 2GW of renewables to the grid in the next six to seven years. This will require significant capital investment to meet numbers like these to which H.E. Honourable January Makamba, Minister for Energy in Tanzania, at TECS 2023 appealed for private financing, insisting the energy sector is more ‘capital-hungry’ now than ever before.

The Summit is a truly international event, with more than 250 of the world’s leading investors attending alongside Ambassadors and High Commissioners from seven countries, to meet over 50 Tanzanian public sector officials from a range of Government institutions.- H.E. Makamba’s support of the Summit has positioned TECS as the annual national event in Tanzania for sustainability, renewable energy, energy access, gas utilisation, decarbonisation of industry and electricity generation. The Ministry has been highly specific in its support of TECS, in addition to recent upstream-focused meetings, so that there are now distinctly different annual events showcasing the Ministry’s plans regarding energy and power development in the country.

Topics the Tanzania Energy Cooperation Summit (TECS) explored:

  • Tanzania's energy development project roadmap and setting up for success
  • Procurement options to support private sector participation
  • The procurement opportunities that are present in 2023
  • The role of gas in Tanzania’s energy mix
  • Tanzania as Africa’s newest regional LNG Hub
  • The role of the private sector in procuring solar and wind capacity
  • Legal and regulatory framework to support investor confidence
  • Development of regional transmission and PPPs
  • Energy development within the mining sector
  • Financing solutions
